Garlic Chocolate Chip Cookies
Got the idea for these cookies from the Stinking Rose Club web page. I combined their version with an old Tollhouse cookie recipe. Garlic cookies sound nasty but they are delicious. Warning: eat them the first day because the older they get the stronger the garlic flavor. Save the leftover maple syrup to use in another dish such as oriental.
Garlic Chocolate Chip Cookies
10 garlic cloves — minced
1/2 cup maple syrup
1 cup shortening
3/4 cup sugar
3/4 cup brown sugar — packed
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon water
2 eggs
2 1/2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt — optional
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
Soak garlic in maple syrup for 20 minutes.
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Combine shortening, sugars, vanilla, and water. Beat until creamy then beat in eggs. Gradually add flour, salt, and soda; mix well. Stir in chocolate chips. Drain garlic and add to batter. Mix well.
Make 1″ balls onto cookie sheet. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.
