What doin’

I’ve been on the not so fun insomnia roller coaster of late.  All I want to do is get off.  How do you stop this thing?!

I’ve been doing a fair amount of reading.  When one has no energy, one can always read.  Currently I’m working my way through Thea Harrison’s Elder Race series.  Paranormal romances with some very erotic sex scenes.

Dragon Bound is the first book about a shape shifting dragon who discovers that the thief who stole from his hoard is actually his lifemate.  I reviewed it for the upcoming issue of Eternal Haunted Summer.  Very good book.

The second book is Storm’s Heart.  This book covers a couple characters we only saw briefly in the first book, Tricks and Tiago.  Tricks is the heir to the Dark Fae throne but is having a bit of a problem with attempted assassinations.  Tiago, a shapeshifting thunderbird, comes to her aid only to find that he never wants to leave…  Almost as good as the first book.

The third book is Serpent’s Kiss.  In the second book, a shapeshifting Griffin promises a favor to a very old vampire in return for her saving his friend’s life.  In this book, she collects upon that favor, only to throw it away.  She is slowly fading away and just wants to be left alone.  The Griffin decides that she is too fascinating and decides to aid her in stopping the progression of her disease.  The solution, thanks to the Oracle of Delphi (now of Tennessee) requires his body to be always with his mate…the vampire.  Enjoyable but not as good as the first two books.

The forth book is Oracle’s Moon.  Take one injured Oracle caring for her orphaned niece and nephew, add one child-loving Djinn and an Elder Race hate group.  Resulting mixture is explosive.  Sex scenes are rather unique in nature.  As good as the first two books.

There are two more books in the series with one yet to be published.  Some engrossing reading with better sex scenes than Laurel Hamilton’s but a bit lighter on the story line than I prefer.  Great “light” reading however.  I’ve also read a book or two in the Sookie Stackhouse series.

Other than that, I’ve been drug out on an overnight fishing trip (where I alternately froze, got burned and windblown but didn’t get a single bite) and signed my son up for all day kindergarten and swim lessons.  Had a book binder look over a couple of my grandmother’s books (Hans Christian Anderson’s tales and Grimm’s Fairy Tales) to get them rebound.  A rather high price but the only other option was throwing them out (as they would have most likely fallen apart if you tried to read them in the current condition) and I couldn’t talk myself into doing that.  Hubby’s comment “for that amount you could buy a lot of books“.  OUCH.  A painful reminder that I really could have done without.  Oh and I have been helping the procrastinator AKA Hubby get his paperwork organized so that he could do taxes.

I did make a tarot purchase thanks to a certain someone’s instigation.  I’ve only had brain space to read through the majors so far but am totally enamored with it so far.  It is the Wildwood Tarot.  It is similar to Rider-Waite tarot system yet totally unique.  I can’t wait to work with it.  Thinking about using it together with Animals Divine tarot.  They seem like they’d work VERY well together but shuffling will be a bitch.

I think that catches you up-to-date.  I’ve done a few small crafts but nothing that seemed worth the effort of blogging about it…
