The souvenir

September 28, 2011

There she sits
in her bower
reminiscing with a smile
over a necklace.

In her red cloak
armed with a knife
into the night goes
a daughter’s defiance.

A full moon rite
there was dancing
there was drums
there were them.

A fight! A fight
between jealous rivals
vying in anger and lust
over some dark-eyed beauty.

One wins to court
with a pretty bauble,
the other hauled away
like a sack of rotten grain.

The musician plays on
never dropping a note
lost in the world
of his own making.

As she made her return
to the place she never left
only to find and admire
an adventure souvenir.

I love the Etruscan Tarot–one of my favourites. For such a simple looking deck it seems to have some depth of story.

I have a bit of a hard time with it…it is plainer than I would like but does seem to work well for a tool in creative writing.
