Altar additions

December 22, 2010

So I got nifty stuff to add to my altars this year for Solstice.  First was the metal round wall decoration.  It reminds me of the pendent that I wear that has many layers of meaning.  It reminds me of a cross roads, the wheel of fortune and the wheel of the year.  I hung it above my Hekate altar.  While there are 8 holders for candles, 7 of them hold various items related to her.  The 8th will hold a candle and may be rotated around the wheel according to the calendar.  (Bottom being Winter Solstice, top being Summer solstice.)

call it a compass, a stylized sun, the wheel of the year, wheel of fortune or the cross-roads...it just seemed perfect for above Hekate's altar.

The next item was a bust of Zeus/Jupiter.  This altar is on the narrow ledge of my desk, above my computer, between the speakers.  There isn’t a lot of room, so far it works.

tiny altar for Zeus with the new bust on the ledge of my desk which is in a corner of my dining room that needs desperate remodeling.

Oh yeah when I saw it at the white elephant exchange, I turned and told my husband that it was going home with me as it is exactly what I’ve been looking for.

I love the bust. I wish it wasn’t so dark but with the horns it definitely relates to his kthonic aspect, so maybe the color is apropos.
