Bad Dreams and Amethyst

December 17, 2009

I dream vividly. Full sight, sound and colors. I dream so vividly that I have been known to mistake dreams for memories. I also have a vivid imagination. The combination of these two traits can cause really horrific nightmares. This is where the amethyst comes in.

I read somewhere a long time ago, that amethyst prevents bad dreams. So I tried it out. I put an amethyst cluster next to my bed. It worked. No bad dreams…at least until the amethyst gets really dusty/dirty. When I start having nightmares again, I know it is time to clean off my amethyst cluster. Call it psychosomatic, call me a new age freak or whatever. I don’t care. As long as I don’t have nasty nightmares.

My son has recently started having nightmares and loud dreams. He woke us up one morning to tell us that his Grammy had hit my truck. There has been a couple of other times that he was crying hysterically yet wasn’t even awake. Last week after we had one of these episodes, Hubby looked at me and said that our son has got my “talent” for dreaming and that I better get him some amethyst for his room. So I finally was able to make it to the local rock store and got him some amethyst. Hopefully it will work as well for him as it does for me!

Night terrors… I had them as a child. I’ll ask Mom what she did to help me reorient and make it through.

Usually he doesn’t wake up all the way. Once he hears our voice or feels our touch he quiets back down. One time it took some cuddling but he never did even open his eyes.
